ABSTRACT:
An improved process for the acid-catalyzed alkylation of C.sub.6 to C.sub.9 aromatic hydrocarbons with olefins to produce linear alkylaromatic hydrocarbons useful as detergent precursors. The alkylation reaction is performed in the presence of a surfactant to reduce the 2-phenyl isomer content of the product linear alkylaromatic hydrocarbons.
