ABSTRACT:
A computer-driven printing system automatically adjusts inter-character spacing to account for the different visual effects that font scaling has on different ordered character pairs. The adjustment A(S, X.sub.j, X.sub.k) for a given size s and character pair (X.sub.j, X.sub.k) is computed from the formula:
