ABSTRACT:
Methods for treating adult-onset diabetes and inducing weight loss are presented. An effective amount of pokeweed mitogen containing a chloroform precipitable fraction is administered to a mammal to treat adult-onset diabetes. Weight loss is induced by administering effective amount of pokeweed mitogen containing a chloroform precipitable fraction or Momordica lectin to induce a decline in food intake in a mammal.
