ABSTRACT:
An adjustable wrench10comprises a body12including a stationary jaw22, an adjustable jaw32, a recess28and a handle27. A knurl30including a worm42is rotatably mounted on an axle38within recess28. The adjustable jaw32includes a plurality of teeth52that mesh with worm42for driving the adjustable jaw32towards or away from stationary jaw22. The adjustable wrench10further includes a receiving channel52formed at an angle to the knurl30within body12. A means for braking54is inserted within the receiving channel54for removably engaging directly with worm42thus restricting the worm42from rotating and preventing the adjustable jaw32from moving. A means for locking70, 76is mounted on body12and interfaces with the means for braking54for preventing the means for braking54from moving. One embodiment of the means for braking54comprises a thumbwheel58and friction stop60.
