A hinge assembly15for a vehicle tailgate14comprises a first hinge member21fastened to the tailgate14and a second hinge member22fastened to a hollow flange23of a vehicle roof13by means of adjustment device24comprising an adjustment nut25and a locking screw26. The second hinge member22has a hollow cylindrical shank portion35with a left-hand external screw thread36and a right-hand internal thread38. Further, the adjustment nut25having a screw thread39engaged with the external thread36of the hollow shank portion35and the locking screw26having a screw thread41engaged with the internal thread38of the hollow shank portion35.
