ABSTRACT:
The first opening31and second opening32are formed in the rotating plate3attached to the rotation axis2of an absolute encoder1in a prescribed positional relation, and a two-dimensional profile sensor5is installed so as to face the lower side3aof the rotating plate3. Also, a light supplying unit4consisting of light sources41and42is installed so as to face the photosensitive area of the profile sensor5with the openings31and32of the rotating plate3placed therebetween. And, based on a correlation between the first detected position P1and second detected position P2where measuring light emitted from the light sources41and42is passed through the openings31and32of the rotating plate3and is detected by the profile sensor5, an absolute value of the rotating angle of the rotation axis2is calculated, wherein it is possible to achieve an absolute encoder capable of accurately measuring the absolute value of the rotating angle of the rotation axis with a simple construction.
