ABSTRACT:
An optical article includes a transparent substrate and an abrasion-resistant layer appended to at least one surface of the substrate. The abrasion-resistant layer results from the reaction mixture of:a first organo-silane chosen from thiocarbamate-silane matrix precursor containing at least one terminal alkoxysilane group, or hydrolysates thereof, the thiocarbamate-silane compound resulting from the reaction of a polythiol including at least two —SH thiol substituent, with an isocyanato-silane compound represented by the general formula:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?(R1)3Si—R2—N═C═Oin-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein R1represents a group selected from linear or branched (C1-C6) alkoxy, and R2represents a group selected from linear or branched (C1-C6) alkylene, linear or branched (C1-C6) alkenylene, arylene, and (C5-C12)cycloakylene, each of these groups being optionally substituted by one to six groups selected from halogen, alkoxy, carboxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, and perfluoroalkyl,an inorganic oxide,a curing catalyst for said thiocarbamate-silane, anda solvent for said organo-silane.
