DESCRIPTION:

BRIEF SUMMARY
The present invention relates to novel 5-pyrazolylbenzoic acid derivatives of the formula I ##STR2## where the variables have the following meanings:
R.sup.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, cyano-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl;
R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkylthio;
R.sup.3 is hydrogen, cyano, nitro, halogen;
R.sup.4 is halogen;
R.sup.5 is cyano, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkoxy;
R.sup.6 is --O--R.sup.7, --S--R.sup.7, --N(R.sup.8)--R.sup.7 or --N(R.sup.8)--O--R.sup.7 ;
R.sup.7 is --X--C(R.sup.9).dbd.N--O--R.sup.10, --X--C(R.sup.9).dbd.N--O--Z--R.sup.10, --X--O--N.dbd.C(R.sup.11,R.sup.12), --X--SO.sub.2 --R.sup.13 or saturated 3- to 7-membered heterocyclyl or heterocyclyl-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, the heterocycle containing, besides methylene members, one to three ring members selected from the group consisting of three aza bridges and two oxygen or sulfur atoms, and it being possible, if desired, for one or two methylene groups of the heterocycle to be replaced by carbonyl, thiocarbonyl and/or sulfonyl, it being possible for the heterocycle to be unsubstituted or to have attached to it one to four substituents in each case selected from the group consisting of halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy)carbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)carbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)carbonyloxy and (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)carbonylamino;
R.sup.8 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -haloalkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkynyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylsulfonyl;
R.sup.9 is hydrogen, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio;
R.sup.10 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -cyanoalkyl, di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)amino-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)carbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy)carbonyl, di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)-aminocarbonyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl)carbonyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -haloalkenyl, di(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl)amino-C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylthio-C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -haloalkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 -cycloalkyl which, if desired, can have attached to it one to three C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl radicals,
or is phenyl, benzoyl or 5- or 6-membered heteroaryl which contains one to three hetero atoms selected from the group consisting of three nitrogen atoms and one oxygen or sulfur atom, it being possible for the phenyl and heteroaryl rings to be unsubstituted or to have attached to each substitutable ring member one of the following substituents: nitro, cyano, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy;
R.sup.11, R.sup.12 independently of one another are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -haloalkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 -haloalkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 -cycloalkyl, which, if desired, can have attached to it one to three C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 -alkyl radicals, or are phenyl which, if desired, can have attached to each substitutable ring member one of the following substituents: nitro, cyano, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -haloalkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, are bonded form a saturated 3- to 8-membered ring which, if desired, can contain, besides methylene members, one or two oxygen, sulfur and/or aza ring members, it being possible for the ring to be unsubstituted or to have attached to it one to four C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl rad
