5-hydroxy-5-substituted phenyl-pyrrolidones and piperidinones, 3.g., 5-hydroxy-1-methyl-5-(m-trifluoromethylphenyl)pyrrolidone, are useful as sedative-hypnotic agents and minor tranquilizers.
