ABSTRACT:
4-Amino-6-(2-carboxyphenyl)-3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one is prepared by the reaction of phthalonic acid or its potassium salt with thiocarbohydrazide. The product melts at 180.degree. at which temperature it decarboxylates, resolidifies, and remelts at 235.degree.-240.degree. as the known 6-phenyl derivative. The compound is useful as a selective herbicide.
