The invention relates to 3-aryluracils of formula I ##STR1## wherein W is a group of formula ##STR2## in which the linkage to the ring nitrogen atom is through the carbon atom: R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, C.sub.3 - or C.sub.4 alkenyl or C.sub.3 - or C.sub.4 alkynyl;
