ABSTRACT:
A tubular capacitor made of metallized film may be drilled through to its hollow center during its manufacture, and any resulting short circuits may be cleared by the application of electrical energy. Third and fourth leads may be attached to end caps on their inside surface, and the leads can be brought out through the through hole. The end caps may have a thickness that is large compared to the penetration depth at a frequency of interest. The capacitor may be used as a four terminal capacitor, for instance, in a switched mode power supply filter, and it will have superior rejection of high frequency AC noise. The two internally connected leads may also be used as a low inductance alternative connection for a two terminal capacitor.
