3-Alkylsulfinyl-2-indolinones, of the formula ##SPC1##
E.g., 3-methylsulfinyl-5-trifluoromethyl-2-indolinone, are useful as minor tranquillizers, muscle relaxants and sedative-hypnotics and are obtainable by oxidizing corresponding 3-alkylthio-2-indolinones.
