Compounds of the formula ##STR1## which inhibit leukocyte adhesion mediated by interaction of the .alpha..sub.4 .beta..sub.1 integrin (VLA-4) with its counterreceptor VCAM-1, and their use for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
