ABSTRACT:
2-Methylbenzaldehyde dialkyl acetals of the general formula I ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is C.sub.3 -C.sub.20 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkoxy and R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sup.8 -alkyl, with the proviso that R.sup.1 is not methoxy when R.sup.2 is methyl, are prepared and are used for the preparation of 2-methylbenzaldehydes.
