ABSTRACT:
A 2,5-disubstituted-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl, X is COOR.sup.2 (in which R.sup.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-10 alkyl), --CONR.sup.3 R.sup.4 (in which R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 each is hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl) or --CN, provided that when R.sup.1 is hydrogen, X is --CN or --CONR.sup.3 R.sup.4. The tetracyanoquinodimethane derivatives are starting materials for the production of polyamides, polyurethanes or organic semiconductor devices.
