ABSTRACT:
2,4-pentanedione-1,5-disulfonic acid is prepared by reacting chlorosulfonic acid with 2,4-pentanedione with heating to a temperature greater than about 50.degree. C., preferably in the presence of an anhydrous solvent. The method of this invention generally yields 2,4-pentanedione-1,5-disulfonic acid in excess of about 60 percent. The novel pentanedionedisulfonic acid (2,4-pentanedione-1,5-disulfonic acid acetylacetone disulfonic acid) is disclosed.
