New 2,3-dihydro-3-(1H-imidazol-1-ylmethylene)-4H-1-benzothiopyran-4-ones are provided having the general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each is hydrogen, lower alkyl, halogen, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio, phenyl-lower alkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl;
