New antibacterial agents, 1,2'-di-N-(.alpha.-hydroxyaminoacyl)-kanamycin B and 1,2'-di-N-(.alpha.-hydroxyaminoacyl)-3',4'-dideoxy kanamycin B are described together with methods for their preparation and use.
