ABSTRACT:
Compounds of formula ##STR1## wherein R, R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and Z have the meanings reported in the specification,
and intermediates for their preparation are described. The compounds of formula I have antiatherosclerotic activity as inhibitors of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase and they are useful in the pharmaceutical field. Compositions for pharmaceutical use containing a compound of formula I as active ingredient are described too.
