1,1-Dialkoxy-2-oxo-6-aryl-3,5-alkadienes of the general formula I ##STR1## where Ar is a phenyl, biphenyl or naphthyl radical which may be substituted by one, two or three C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy groups, hydroxyl groups, phenoxy groups, amino groups which may be mono- or di-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl-substituted, halogen atoms or a methylenedioxy group, the substituents being identical or different,
