Described is a process for producing 1,1,4,7-tetramethyl-3-indanone defined according to the structure: ##STR1## the 1,1,4,7-tetramethyl-3-indanone per se and organoleptic uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma of perfume compositions, perfumed articles and colognes.
