Disclosed is an oxidation catalyst which is particularly useful for the conversion of unsaturated aldehydes to the corresponding unsaturated carboxylic acid. The catalyst has the following empirical formula Mo.sub.a V.sub.b W.sub.c Mn.sub.d O.sub.e.
