ABSTRACT:
Oral compositions containing an anticalculus agent selected from the group consisting of compounds having the following structural formulas: ##STR1## wherein X, X', Y, and Y' are selected from the group consisting of H, OH, SO.sub.3 Na, and CH.sub.2 N(CH.sub.2 COOH).sub.2 and additionally wherein at least two of the substituents X, X', Y, and Y' must be hydroxyls, and at least one of the further of said substituents must be OH, SO.sub.3 Na, or CH.sub.2 N (CH.sub.2 COOH).sub.2. The preferred anthraquinoid derivatives are Alizarin red S monohydrate, Alizarin complexone dihydrate, purpurin, and purpurin sulfonate.
