There are prepared azido groups containing organosilicon compounds of the formula ##EQU1## where R is a divalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms which is free from ethylenically unsaturated bonds and whose carbon chain in a given case, is interrupted once by --O--, --S--, or --NR.sup.3 where R.sup.3 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or phenyl,
