ABSTRACT:
Copolymer emulsions comprising (1) an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid and (2) methyl acrylate are useful as thickening agents, particularly in acrylic polymer latices. An especially effective thickening agent is obtained when the copolymer emulsion is prepared using the dioctyl ester of sulfosuccinic acid as a surfactant.
