ABSTRACT:
An optical fiber for transmission of high intensity infrared radiation comprising a core of a silver or thallium halide crystal, a first infrared transmitting layer 5 .mu.m thick of lead or barium fluoride and an overlying highly conductive metal film whereby both waveguide and radiation modes leaking out of the core are attenuated.
