ABSTRACT:
An improved surgical cannula and trocar system for use in laparoscopic surgery. The system includes a novel surgical cannula including shield means for protecting operating room personnel from accidental contact with the trocar's sharp tip. The surgical cannula also includes improved sealing means for reliably preventing fluids from passing through the cannula both when an instrument extends through the cannula and no instrument extends through the cannula.
