ABSTRACT:
A room air conditioner of the type having an indoor section and outdoor section which are supported by a basepan and separated by a partition. The indoor section includes an indoor fan and an evaporator. The cold evaporator condenses moisture from the air to be cooled. Means are provided to collect the condensate and to conduct it along a path from the indoor section, through an opening in the partition, at basepan level, to the outdoor section. The opening in the partition has a given height from the basepan which is sufficient to allow condensate flow, and a given width. A hood is provided adjacent to the opening on the outdoor side of the partition wall which extends from the top of the opening downwardly a distance less than the given height of the opening. The hood completely encloses the given width to thereby define a lower edge under which water or air must pass to pass through the condensate opening.
