ABSTRACT:
The present invention provides a pointing device which can be mounted in a limited space in a PC housing with no gap therebetween and which permits continued control of a cursor on the PC screen regardless of the size of a tablet sheet. Cursor control data is produced from data about the positional relationship between a pressed position (x.sub.n, y.sub.n) on the tablet sheet and a fixed reference position (x.sub.0, y.sub.0). Since the relative position data represents the distance and direction of the pressed position relative to the reference position, the movement of the cursor can be controlled by changing only the position where to press the tablet sheet relative to the reference position when the cursor control data is provided to a personal computer. Hence, even if the tablet sheet is narrow, the cursor can be controlled continuously. Additionally, marginal portions of the tablet sheet can be closely joined to the PC housing with no gap therebetween.
