ABSTRACT:
A magneto-optical recording medium includes a substrate, a perpendicular magnetic recording layer provided on the substrate and being a multilayered film formed by alternately laminating two or more combinations of Co layer and Pt layer, and a ground layer provided between the substrate and the recording layer. The ground layer is made of a material selected from the group consisting of composite oxides containing Y, Ba and Cu, TiC, Nb.sub.2 O.sub.5, Si, intermetallic compounds between Si and a metal, SiC, SrTiO.sub.3 and CeO.sub.2.
