ABSTRACT:
N-phosphonomethyl glycine is produced by the oxidation of N-(phosphonomethyl) iminodiacetic acid. N-(Phosphonomethyl) iminodiacetic acid is heated to an elevated temperature in an aqueous medium and an oxidizing agent (H.sub.2 O.sub.2, air plus a catalyst such as platinum, palladium, rhodium, etc.) added to oxidize the N-(phosphonomethyl) iminodiacetic acid to N-phosphonomethyl glycine, which is recovered by crystallization.
