ABSTRACT:
A method for simulating the response of a circuit to one or more stimulating signals using a digital computer. The circuit is represented by N nodes, where N is an integer greater than 1. Each of the nodes is connected to one or more devices, each device being represented by a computer routine that provides the current sourced by that device at each frequency, .omega..sub.h, when the nodes are held at a set of potentials represented by ##EQU1## where X.sub.n,-h =X*.sub.n,h,n runs from 1 to N, and H is an integer greater than 0. The method determines the values of the X.sub.n,h by iteratively computing a new estimate for X=[X.sub.10, . . . ,X.sub.1H,X.sub.20, . . . ,X.sub.2H, . . . ,X.sub.N0, . . . X.sub.NH ] from a previous estimate for X. The estimates for X are based on the values of F.sub.nh, for n from 1 to N and h from 0 to H, where F.sub.nh is the net current flowing into node n for frequency .omega..sub.h. Each iteration includes four steps. In the first step, a subset of frequencies is selected for each of the nodes. In the second step, F.sub.nh, for n from 1 to N and h from 0 to H is computed. In the third step, the partial derivatives of F.sub.np with respect to X.sub.jk where n,j run for 1 to N and p, k are restricted to those values of h for which .omega..sub.h is in the subset of frequencies are computed. Finally, an updated value for each X.sub.np for which .omega..sub.p is included in the subset of frequencies at node n is computed.
