ABSTRACT:
Aromatic compounds that are hydroxy-substituted on the aromatic nucleus can effectively be hydrogenated by contacting those compounds simultaneously with hydrogen and a catalyst comprising ruthenium supported by Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 under alkaline conditions.
