ABSTRACT:
Improved carbon electrodes, for use as anodes in an electrolytic cell for the generation of fluorine from a melt having the approximate composition KF.2HF, which show an improvement in cell efficiency are described. In contrast to the known fluorine cell electrodes which have a rough surface, the electrodes of this invention have smooth, polished, surfaces. A method of polishing known electrodes is also described, wherein a liquid polishing medium is used. The liquid chosen affects to a small degree the efficiency improvement obtained.
