The present invention relates to a photosensitive member comprising a specified distyryl compound represented by the general formula [I]: ##STR1## in which Ar.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group, wherein the aryl group and the heterocyclic group may have a substituent;
