ABSTRACT:
A photoconductor for electrophotography comprising a novel squarylium as a charge generating substance. A squarylium compound is represented by the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein, each of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 stands for a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a nitro group, and each of R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 stands for a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy group.
