A thermoplastic wholly aromatic copolyimide ester consisting essentially of the recurring unit (I) represented by the following formula: ##STR1## the recurring unit (II) represented by the following general formula: ##STR2## wherein n is an integer of 0 or 1; the recurring unit (III) represented by the following formula: ##STR3## wherein the two carbonyl groups are present at para position or meta position of the benzene nucleus to each other; and the recurring units (IV 1) or (IV 2) represented respectively by the following formulas: ##STR4## wherein --Q-- is --O-- or --CO--
