ABSTRACT:
Polymerization catalysts are prepared by impregnation of a silica or aluminum support with a vanadium, titanium and/or chromium salt decomposable upon calcination to the oxide, calcining the impregnated support at about 500.degree.-700.degree. C., impregnating the calcined support with a solution of aluminum hydride and heating the resultant material to about 300.degree. C.-500.degree. C. in hydrogen. The catalyst is extremely active for the polymerization of lower molecular weight olefins such as ethylene and ethylene-propylene mixtures.
