ABSTRACT:
A beverage brewing apparatus suitable for use in a vending machine has a frame supporting a vertically movable open-bottom cylinder and piston slidably disposed within the cylinder. The reciprocal movement of the piston within the cylinder is controlled by the operation of a cam element operated by a motor through a cam shaft, with this operation of the cam applying a vertical force to push the piston and also applying horizontal force tending to offset the axial center lines between the piston and cylinder. Therefore, the apparatus is provided with means for preventing the piston from lateral horizontal movement relative to the cylinder to insure improved sealing between the piston and cylinder. This horizontal movement preventing device comprises a plurality of guide elements vertically disposed relative to each other on the frame to guide the reciprocal movement of the piston with the lowermost positioned guide element being vertically movably supported on the frame and normally biased upwardly against the upper positioned element.
