ABSTRACT:
Yttria stabilized zirconia materials are sintered using low temperature liquid phase sintering techniques. A fugitive sintering aid, lanthana borate, is combined with the yttria stabilized zirconia in sufficient amounts to effect the liquid phase sintering. The material is sintered by heating to about 1390.degree. C. for a duration of about two hours. The resulting sintered yttria stabilized zirconia is characterized by a fine microstructure and improved low temperature stability.
