ABSTRACT:
Substituted phenylindoles, useful as anti-diarrhoeal agents and having the formula: ##STR1## and the pharmaceutically-acceptable acid addition salts thereof; wherein R is hydrogen, chloro, bromo, --CH(OH).Ph or --CH(OH).cyclohexyl; each Ph is phenyl or substituted phenyl; n is an integer of from 2 to 7; and each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is hydrogen or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkyl, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 taken together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a heterocyclic group; and a method for the treatment of diarrhoea by the administration of said agents.
