ABSTRACT:
3-Amino-2-cyanoacrylonitrile derivatives of the formula ##STR1## where R is substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 -alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted styryl, substituted or unsubstituted phenyl or aromatic heterocyclyl, are prepared by treating a nitrile in an inert organic diluent at from 0.degree. to +30.degree. C. with a substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 -alkanol in the presence of a hydrogen halide and reacting the resulting iminoester hydrohalide directly or after isolation with malodinitrile in an inert organic diluent at from 20.degree. to 100.degree. C. in the presence of a base.
