ABSTRACT:
A liquid crystal composition comprising a mixture of at least one kind of liquid crystal substance represented by the following general formula (1) and at least one kind of compound selected from the groups consisting of the compounds represented by the following general formulas (2) to (8): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are CN group or selected from C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O and C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 COO groups where n is an integer of from 1 to 10, and both R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are not CN group simultaneously; ##STR2## wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are CN group, or selected from C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 O, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 COO and C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1 OCOO groups where n is an integer of from 1 to 10, and both R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are not CN group simultaneously; R.sub.5 is selected from the above-described groups, except for CN group; and R.sub.6 is selected from --COO--, --C.sub.2 H.sub.4 --, --O--CH.sub.2 -- and --C.sub.2 H.sub.2 --.
