ABSTRACT:
A 1,8-naphthyridine compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a lower alkyl group, and the esters and salts thereof. The 1,8-naphthyridine compound of the formula (I) in which R.sub.1 is a methyl group is useful as an antibacterial agent.
