ABSTRACT:
A process and composition for removing elemental mercury vapor from a gas such as natural gas is disclosed. The mercury-containing gas is contacted with a solid support such as carbon containing elemental sulfur and at least one metal which catalyzes the reaction: 2 Hg+S.sub.2 .revreaction.2 HgS.
