A process for manufacturing an aromatic polyester resin represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar.sup.1 and Ar.sup.2 represent a bivalent aromatic radical and n is an integer of 10 to 100, comprising reacting an aromatic diol represented by the general formula:
