[The] Phthalide ester of 6-[(D(-).alpha.-aminophenylacetamido] penicillanic acid and intermediates therefor [are described]. The phthalide penicillin ester is orally administrable to provide high serum concentrations of the free acid form of the [parent] penicillin.
