ABSTRACT:
A process for preparing 2,2',4,4',6,6'-hexanitrostilbene in high yields by eacting 2,2',4,4',6,6'-hexanitrobibenzyl in a suitable solvent with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst is selected from the group consisting of copper ammino and cobalt ammino compounds, copper and cobalt acetates, copper and cobalt halides, copper sulfate, and ammonium and alkali metal bases.
