ABSTRACT:
A portable radio pager receives a radio message encoded with graphical information, e.g. Oriental language characters, to be displayed. The radio message is converted into an address code of N-bits. Predetermined and programmable language characters are stored respectively in on-board, read-only and random access memories at addressable locations. More than 2.sup.N addressable locations are addressed to obtain the language characters to be displayed on the pager.
